Codes of Conduct

Coach Code of Conduct

·         Soccer is the players’ game. My paramount concern is the development, welfare, enjoyment and safety of our
       players.

·         As a Martin Luther King Junior Soccer League coach, I shall provide a positive role model for the players and
      parents, by consistently acting in a positive, controlled and mature manner.

·         I will treat officials and opposing coaches with respect and dignity, and shall refrain from open arguments with
      officials and other coaches. I will teach my players to do the same.

·         I will show respect for our opponents and expect their coaches to do likewise.

·         I will not engage in public criticism of: opponents, officials, parents or MLKJSL players or staff

·         I will encourage parents to support the team with their presence as much as possible.

·         In both victory and defeat, my behavior shall model grace, dignity and composure.

·         I have a responsibility to promote the interests of soccer, including treating the media with courtesy, honesty
      and respect.

·         I will seek ways of increasing my professional development and continuing coaching education.

·         I will model inclusive behavior, actively supporting cultural diversity while opposing all types of discrimination,
      including, but not limited to, racism and sexism, at all levels of soccer.

·         I will be responsible for taking an active role in education about, and prevention and treatment of, drug, alcohol
      and tobacco abuse, both in my own live and in the lives of our players.

·         I will refrain from all manner of personal abuse and harassment of others, whether verbal, physical, emotional
      or sexual, and shall oppose such abuse and harassment at all levels of soccer.

·         I will seek to honor those who uphold the highest standards and principles of soccer and shall use appropriate
      protocol to oppose and eliminate all behavior that brings disrepute to the sport – violence, abuse, dishonesty,
      disrespect and violations of the Laws of the Game and rules governing competition.

·         I will discipline players in a FAIR and CONSISTENT manner.

 

Player Code of Conduct

·         I will maintain a positive attitude during training, games and all MLKJSL events.

·         I will be punctual and ready at all training sessions, games and events.

·         I will be a team player and encourage my fellow teammates at all times.

·         I will not engage in any fighting or flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct during any training session, game or
      event.

·         I will not use foul or degrading language while playing for the club.

·         I will respect my teammates, coaches and trainers. I will accept the authority of my coach when disciplined.

·         I will take good care of my jerseys and wear them only on game days. I will ensure that my jersey is clean for
      every game. I will return all jerseys and training gears when requested by the club.

·         I will attend every practice and game that I can, and I will notify the coaching staff if I cannot attend.

·         I will be modest and generous when I win and gracious when I lose.

·         I will control my temper and not retaliate, even if I believe I have been wronged.

·         I will work hard in school and maintain a passing grade in all my classes. I acknowledge that the club can
      suspend me from training and games if I am failing any of my classes/courses.

·         I will not use or possess tobacco, alcohol, illegal or performance-enhancing drugs.

·         I will show respect for the authority of the referee, even though I will sometimes disagree with his/her calls.

 

I understand that playing time is not guaranteed and I recognize that certain games are more competitive that others and that some players will earn more playing time based on effort, ability and attitude at practices and games.

 

Parent Code of Conduct

·         I will insist that my child play in a safe and healthy environment.

·         I will demand a drug, alcohol and tobacco free sports environment for my child and all children, I agree to
      assist by refraining from their use at any and all MLKJSL activities.

·         I will ask my child to treat all players, coaches, trainers and officials with respect.

·        I will support my child’s efforts to be on time and be prepared for all training sessions and games.

·        I will make every effort to attend home and away games to support my child and the team.

·         I will not coach any player or interfere with any coaching activities during training sessions or games.

·         I agree not to criticize or make any disparaging comments about any player, coach or official during training
      sessions or games.

·        I will discuss all issues with my child’s coach privately and at a time away from the game. I will not
      approach the coach after a game to discuss my child’s playing time (recommend a 24 hour cool off     
      period).

·         I will never use foul language or obscene gestures at a game or practice site.

·         I will cooperate with any request by the MLKJSL coaching staff and game officials.

·         I acknowledge that I’m responsible for my guests’ behavior and it’s my responsibility to inform them of the
      applicable code of conduct

 

All participants, including coaches and parents, of the Martin Luther King Junior Soccer League shall abide by the Club’s Code of Conduct at all times. Any breach of inappropriate behavior that is determined to violate this Code of Conduct shall result in Disciplinary Action by the MLKJSL Board of Directors, up to and including, without limitation, expulsion from the game and expulsion from the MLKJSL.
